EIC Impact Report 2023: More than 1,000 unique innovations generated from Pathfinder projects

The European Innovation Council (EIC) Impact Report 2023 is now available. The report provides an overview over the impact of the EIC’s project and start-up portfolio to date, for both Horizon Europe and predecessor programmes. For the first time the report also includes a portfolio analysis of the funded projects and companies with details on the nature of deep tech of their innovations.

The EIC portfolio now includes over 500 companies and 276 advanced research projects, as well as 140 research projects commercialising research results. Key impacts include the portfolio value of EIC funded companies, which is estimated at EUR 70 billion and has seen an increase of EUR 20 billion in the past year. The report also celebrates the EIC’s impact on scaling up its companies, and explores impact indicators such as employment and revenue growth as well as follow-on investments attracted by the funded companies.

EIC research projects funded through the Pathfinder schemes have generated 1689 unique innovations according to the report. 40% of all Pathfinder projects had at least one consortium partner from industry. 25% of projects reported at least one patent application and 12% of projects led to the founding of a spin-off company.

Concerning EIC Transition, the report provides information on the profile of organisations participating in the scheme: 50% come from ERC Proof of Concept grants and 45% from EIC Pathfinder or its predecessor programme Future Emerging Technologies.

The report includes a number of testimonials, examples of funded projects and also highlights the EIC service portfolio for its beneficiaries, the Business Acceleration Services (BAS).
