Secure, clean and efficient energy

Research and development funding under this Societal Challenge is designed to contribute to the transition to a reliable, sustainable and competitive energy system and to reduce dependency on fossil fuels in Europe.

The framework for this are the European Union's 2030 climate and energy targets, aiming at a 40% cut in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990 levels, at least 27% energy savings compared with the business-as-usual scenario and at least a 27% share of renewable energy consumption.

For the calls for proposals within this Societal Challenge, a budget of EUR 5,69 billion (7,6% of the total H2020 budget) is planned.
