EU strategy („EU-Strategiegespräche - Perspektiven und Potenziale für Universitäten und Hochschulen in Horizon 2020“) are strategic talks and a novel service by KoWi developed from the previously performed “EU-Potentialanalyse. The service aims at framing a management tool for university administration. It provides orientation and information on current developments and perspectives of European policies concerning EU-research funding. Therefore it paves the way for developing a research profile, respective structures and research priorities that facilitates successful funding actions and leads to a permanent competitive position in the field of EU-funding.
Regularly scheduled topics for each strategy talk are the presentation of the European Research Area (ERA) and its influence on national science systems and research institutes, the discussion of funding opportunities within “Horizon 2020” with regard to the respective scientific focus of the university, the presentment of relevant participation rules and the aspects for a powerful EU-governance structure; However, a strategy talk focuses on individual preferences of the respective institution which will be determined during the joint preparation.
Formally, a strategy talk is an advisory discussion lead by KoWi including work shop elements and it involves the administration of the respective university, faculty or department as well as the persons who are in charge of EU research funding and strategic development. It takes place locally at the respective institution and is scheduled regularly with a time frame of 3-4 h. The service is free of charge; KoWi is a service platform of the “German Research Foundation” (DFG) and thereby part of the scientific self-governing system.
