EU Commission publishes update of Bioeconomy Strategy
16. Oct 2018
On October 11, the European Commission has published the update of its Bioeconomy Strategy as an “action plan to develop a sustainable and circular bioeconomy that serves Europe's society, environment and economy.”
In 2017, a review of the original strategy from 2012 was carried out, which stressed that its objectives remain valid but need to be refocussed and adapted in scope. 14 concrete actions which will be launched in 2019 at the latest will address the existing challenges in the context of three action areas:
- Scaling up and strengthening the bio-based sectors
- Rapidly deploying bioeconomies across Europe
- Protecting the ecosystem and understanding the ecological limitations of the bioeconomy
On 22 October, the Commission will host a conference in Brussels to discuss the action plan with stakeholders. The conference will also be webstreamed.
