On 22 February 2018, Professor Mariana Mazzucato who holds the Chair in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value at University College London has presented her report “Mission-Oriented Research and Innovation in the European Union”
The report was commissioned by the Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas. It is considered as one of the contributions for designing the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
The report reflects i.a. the rationale of a possible mission-oriented approach in the next Framework Programme, criteria for selecting missions as well as key aspects of implementation. Moreover, it outlines three examples of possible missions: “100 carbon neutral cities by 2030“, “a plastic-free ocean“ and “decreasing the burden of dementia”.
On the basis of the report by Professor Mazzucato, the European Commission has launched a call for feedback on future research and innovation mission which is open until April 3, 2018.
