European Commission 2020 Work Programme adopted

On 29 January 2020, the European Commission adopted its Work Programme for 2020 which sets out the actions the Commission will initiate this year to implement the political guidelines of Commission President von der Leyen.
The following (non-legislative) initiatives are envisaged in the field of research and innovation:

  • Communication on the Future of Research and Innovation and the European Research Area (Q2 2020)
  • Communication on Horizon Europe research and innovation missions (Q4 2020)

In addition to actions already announced as part of the "Green Deal", the following initiatives are in particular also noteworthy, as they will provide further orientation with regard to the implementation of the thematic priorities of Horizon Europe:

  • New EU Forest Strategy (Q4 2020)
  • ‘Farm to Fork’ Strategy (Q1 2020)
  • Strategy for smart sector integration (Q2 2020)
  • Offshore renewable energy (Q4 2020)  
  • New Circular Economy Action Plan (Q1 2020)  
  • EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 (Q1 2020)
  • Strategy for sustainable and smart mobility (Q4 2020)
  • White Paper on Artificial Intelligence (Q1 2020)
  • European Strategy for Data (Q1 2020)
