Application process for the new EU Award for Gender Equality Champions has started
22. Jul 2022
Last week, the application process for the first edition of the EU Award for Gender Equality Champions started. With the award, the European Commission wants to recognize outstanding achievements of universities and research institutions in the field of gender equality.
The initiative aims to raise public awareness in the importance of addressing gender equality in academia and to increase the level of commitment in implementing gender equality plans (GEP) at research institutions. The award is thus in line with the goals of the ERA policy agenda as well as the new European Strategy for Universities and complements the eligibility criteria for participating institutions in Horizon Europe with regard to gender equality aspects.
There are three price categories:
- Sustainable Gender Equality Champions
Institutions that can prove a high level of commitment and significant achievements regarding the implementation of their gender equality plans.
- Newcomer Gender Equality Champions
Institutions that have recently implemented a gender equality plan and can show great progress since then.
- Inclusive Gender Equality Champions
Institutions that have implemented a very inclusive equality plan that also takes into account other social categories.
Applications are open to universities, higher education institutions as well as other research organizations from an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe Associated Country until 13 October 2022. It is only possible to apply in one of the three categories. Each winner will receive EUR 100,000.
