Background

The EU Health Strategy "Together for Health" supports the overall Europe 2020 strategy. Europe 2020 aims to turn the EU into a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy promoting growth for all – one prerequisite of which is a population in good health. Therefore health research makes a valuable contribution to this.

In charge of the development of the programme for this Societal Challenge is beside the directorate general (DG) "Research and Innovation", the DG "Communications Networks, Content and Technology" (CONNECT) and the DG "Health and Consumers" (SANCO).

The European Innovation Partnership (EIP) "Active and Healthy Ageing" (AHA) has been established to allow a better interconnection between the different stakeholders especially from industry and Member States. The calls in the Societal Challence "Health, demographic change and wellbeing" shall refer to the actions of the EIP AHA. Furthermore the Public Health Programme "Health for growth" and the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme – AAL are of major importance in supporting actions of the EIP AHA.
