About KoWi

Who are we?

We at KoWi see ourselves as a dynamic information hub on all aspects of European research funding - for science organisations, German universities and researchers in Germany. We are in close contact with the EU institutions in charge of research policy and funding for research and innovation. With our established formats, we support stakeholders in the German science community who want to apply for EU funding for their projects and engage with EU research policy.

Our services are aimed at researchers as well as EU liaison officers and administrators at universities and research institutions in Germany:

  • Information, advice, training on EU research funding, in particular on the funding opportunities of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation

  • Fostering expertise for EU strategy development and for the set-up and support of international and intersectoral project consortia

  • Support for the members of the KoWi supporting association with services tailored to their requirements

What makes us different?

  • "The EU Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations" (KoWi) is the joint service platform of the major German science organisations which are members of KoWi's supporting association "Verein zur Förderung der europäischen und internationalen wissenschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit e.V. (Association for the Promotion of European and International Cooperation in Science e.V.)".

  • As an "Auxiliary Research Institution", KoWi is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) and is therefore part of the scientific self-administration in Germany.

  • We maintain offices in Bonn and Brussels, with conference facilities that can also be used by researchers from Germany.

  • We have 30 years of experience as a brand in Brussels and Bonn and have developed connections to partners from Europe and EU institutions at the Brussels location.

  • We offer accompanying and strategic proactive services "from a single source", aimed at researchers, administrators and institutions nationwide.

  • We provide career-related and subject-specific advice on all instruments of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation and on all phases of an EU research project.

  • With regard to the information and advice on European Research Council (ERC) funding, we are part of the ERC National Contact Point (NCP).

  • In our services we take into account how EU research funding and national funding for research can be interlinked as far as possible.
