With its third pillar "Innovative Europe", Horizon Europe focuses on the promotion of innovation-related activities. This includes the various funding instruments under the umbrella of the European Innovation Council (EIC), the European Innovation Ecosystems, and the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
In addition to the three pillars of the framework programme, the programme part, Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area” is dedicated to the support of the European Research Area as a whole and, in particular, to narrowing the gap in research and innovation performance between EU member states.
The various programme parts of Horizon Europe are not to be understood as independent funding lines, but are intended to build on each other, complement each other and exploit synergies. With the missions and partnerships, there are also cross-cutting elements that thematically link programme parts and promote cross-programme activities.
