The "Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness" pillar bundles the majority of the top-down calls within Horizon Europe in the structure of six thematic Clusters:
The Clusters cover topics that are seen as global challenges. However, they always also focus on the competitiveness of the EU economy and the leading role in the development of technological and non-technological approaches (incl. key enabling technologies). Issues should not be dealt with in separate thematic silos, but with cross-sectoral and cross-disciplinary approaches that involve all relevant players.
The measures to be supported should generate new knowledge and contribute to the lab-to-market development of world-class innovations in the EU, thus covering the entire innovation cycle up to Technology Readiness Level 8 (demonstrators, pilot lines). Science communication, standardisation, socio-economic and sustainability aspects and the promotion of gender equality should play a role alongside research and development activities.
For the calls for proposals and funding instruments of the Research Infrastructures part of the programme, a budget of around EUR 53.8 billion is available in Horizon Europe, which is around 56% of the total budget.
KoWi advises you as a scientist or also as an EU officer as well as an administrator in a university or research institution from the application to the implementation on all funding areas within the research infrastructures part of the programme. We offer individual counselling as well as information events and lectures and in-depth "funding coaching" for individual topics, both in a virtual format and at on-site events.
We keep background information on EU policies and the relevant networks underlying the respective topics for the classification of research funding in the thematic Clusters. We will be happy to provide you with this information individually, in accordance with your interests. Moreover, we offer to proofread your applications, especially with regard to the non-scientific parts of the application and the overall orientation of your application.
