Further funding opportunities

Other funding for SME within Horizon 2020

SME are eligible for funding through collaborative projects in the parts "Societal Challenges" and "Industrial Leadership". In Research and Innovation Actions they receive 100% of direct eleigible costs, for the more appplied Innovation Actions the funding rate is 70%. Indirect costs are funded via a flat rate of 25% of direct eligible costs. In many calls of the  parts "Societal Challenges" and "Industrial Leadership", participation of SME in the in the consortium is a precondition. Besides, the new scheme Fast Track to Innovation puts a focus on SME.

SME participation is also recommended in other parts of Horizon 2020, such as the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Further SME funding and support is available through the European Institute of Technology and the financial instruments which are targeted on SME.

Other funding for SME beyond Horizon 2020

The  "Competitiveness of enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises" programme (COSME) facilitates access to loans and venture capital for SME, especially during their expansion and growth stage, as well as to European and international markets. COSME is also designed to improve the entrepreneurial spirit and the competitiveness of European enterprises. The programme is based on the experience of the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP) (2007-2014). COSME will run from 2014 to 2020 and has a budget of EUR 2.3 billion (current prices).
