Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy

The aim of funding activities in this Societal Challenge is the sufficient supply of safe, healthy and high-quality food and other bio-based products for a growing world population. Closely related to this is the development of productive, sustainable and resource-efficient primary production systems and the fostering of related ecosystem services and competitive and low carbon supply processing and marketing chains. Activities in this area shall accelerate the transition to a sustainable European bio-economy.

For the calls for proposals within this Societal Challenge a budget of EUR 3.71 billion (5% of the total H2020 budget) is foreseen.
