Horizon Europe: UK association formalised

On 4 December, the European Commission and the United Kingdom adopted the political agreement on the association to two EU funding programmes: Horizon Europe and Copernicus, which is part of the Space Programme. The adoption was the final step paving the way to UK association to both programmes from 1 January 2024.

The UK will now be eligible to participate as an Associated Country in the 2024 Horizon Europe calls and going forward. The UK is expected to contribute on average EUR 2.43 billion per year to Horizon Europe, which will result in a considerable increase of the overall budget of the programme.

Successful UK participants in projects resulting from calls from 2021-2023 will continue to be covered by the UK funding guarantee and UK partners will continue to fall under the "Associated Partner" (third country partner) status.
