European Commission: Public consultation on forest monitoring

26. Aug 2022

After an exploratory phase in spring this year, the European Commission has launched a second consultation on forest monitoring.

The results of the consultation will feed into the proposal for a Regulation on the EU Framework for Forest Monitoring and Strategic Plans, which the European Commission intends to adopt in the second quarter of 2023. The aim of the initiative is to create a new framework for forest monitoring in order to protect forests more effectively. This will be achieved by providing more accurate and consolidated data on forest management and condition.

The project was announced in the EU Forest Strategy 2030 and is embedded in the European Green Deal.

The consultation is addressed to different stakeholders such as relevant authorities, non-governmental organisations, technology and service providers, but also researchers and other experts from the fields of forestry, environment, climate, spatial and urban planning.

The consultation is open until 17 November.
