Report on the relevance of MSCA projects to the European Green Deal published

15. Jul 2022

In July 2021, the European Research Executive Agency (REA) and the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) of the European Commission organised a joint Cluster Event where 69 MSCA projects were presented that can be classified as relevant to the European Green Deal due to their thematic focus. The results of this meeting have now been published in a comprehensive report

The aim of the event was to highlight the scientific excellence of the projects and to showcase their contribution to the implementation of the European Green Deal, as well as to identify policy measures for research and innovation at the European level. In addition, it was intended to enhance synergies between the different projects and to create networking opportunities between researchers and decision-makers.

The event focused especially on key topics such as biodiversity and sustainable agriculture, the decarbonising of the energy sector as well as questions of climate neutrality, emission reduction and measures against air, water and soil pollution. Along these thematic priorities, the report highlights the various MSCA projects with regard to their relevance to the European Green Deal and its implementation.

The report emphasises that research projects can contribute to the aims of the European Green Deal even more if multidisciplinary training of researchers gains more support and inter-sectoral cooperation between industry and academia will be enhanced. At the same time, international cooperation and cross-border knowledge sharing has to be strengthened. In this regard, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions are already considered as a key instrument for the implementation of the European Green Deal.
