MSCA: Results of the Postdoctoral Fellowships Call 2021

25. Mar 2022

The European Commission has recently published the results of last year’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships call. By the call deadline on 12 October 2021 the European Research Executive Agency (REA) had received 8,356 proposals of which 1,156 have been selected for funding. The allocated overall budget amounts to EUR 242 Mio.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships provide support to excellent individual researchers and their research project while developing their skills through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility.

Of the selected projects, 1,025 will be awarded as European Postdoctoral Fellowship to be carried out in an EU member state or Horizon Europe associated country. 131 researchers will be awarded with a Global Postdoctoral Fellowship to be carried out in a third country such as the United States, Canada or Australia. Among the awarded researchers, five projects will be carried out under the cooperation between MSCA and the Euratom Research and Training Programme 2021-2025. Furthermore, 50 additional ERA fellowships will be awarded to researchers in so-called Widening countries such as Portugal, Czech Republic or Slovenia.

Most of the selected proposals are from the social sciences and humanities (24%), from life sciences (22%), from chemistry (14%) and environment and geosciences (12%). 43% of the awardees are female.

Research proposals that have been evaluated with a score of 85% or higher, but could not be funded due to insufficient budget, will be awarded the Seal of Excellence certificate, which will be available via the Funding and Tenders Opportunities Portal by early May. The Seal of Excellence is intended to support further application for other funding opportunities for the projects in question.

The next MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships call will open 12 May 2022. KoWi offers advice on any issue regarding the application process and will provide you with feedback on your proposal if you forward it to us three weeks before the deadline for submission (12 September 2022).
