ERA4Ukraine portal: information for researchers from Ukraine

25. Mar 2022

EURAXESS, the European information portal for researchers, has launched a dedicated section for researchers from Ukraine as part of the ERA4Ukraine initiative. The new website provides an overview of European and national support services for refugee researchers.

The focus is on practical assistance, recognition of degrees and employment and funding opportunities for researchers coming from Ukraine. Around 20 EU and associated countries/association candidates have already compiled country-specific information, including Germany. The information on the ERA4Ukraine portal will also be made available in Ukrainian in the near future.

Ukraine has applied for association to the Horizon Europe research framework programme, but this has not yet been ratified. Ukrainian institutions can nevertheless receive funding from Horizon Europe even before the association agreement is ratified. As EU Research Commissioner Mariya Gabriel announced at the beginning of March, Ukraine will be counted as a middle- or low-income country until its association to Horizon Europe and is thus eligible for funding. This arrangement was made by the European Commission in response to the war in Ukraine.

Also as part of the initiative, the ERC encourages funded grantees to recruit researchers from Ukraine to their project teams. Many ERC Principal Investigators have already responded to this call. Corresponding offers can be found on the ERC website.

With the Science4Refugees initiative, EURAXESS supports refugee researchers regardless of their origin.
