Marie Skłodowska-Curie RISE Call 2020: 74 successful project consortia selected for funding

02. Sep 2020

The European Commission published the results of the 2020 call for proposals of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) scheme. A total of 74 project proposals were selected for funding. 823 organisations across all scientific domains participate in the funded exchange projects. A budget of EUR 80 million was available in the 2020 call.

Mariya Gabriel, EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, praised the RISE funding scheme, which promotes creativity and entrepreneurship through staff exchanges and helps to turn cutting-edge research into innovative products and services.

The RISE scheme promotes international and inter-sector collaboration through research and innovation staff exchange and sharing of knowledge. Support is provided for the development of partnerships in the form of joint research and innovation activities between the participants. RISE consortia need to be established in at least three different countries. Participation of third-country organisations is possible.

The 2020 call for proposals was the last under the current EU Framework Programme for Research Horizon 2020. For the new Framework Programme Horizon Europe, which will start in 2021, some changes have been announced for the RISE scheme, which will then probably be called "Staff Exchanges". The basic principles of the programme will nevertheless remain the same.
