Monitoring report on the integration of social sciences and humanities in Horizon 2020

07. Mar 2019

On 28 February 2019, the European Commission published a new monitoring report on the integration of social sciences and humanities in Horizon 2020. As a cross-cutting theme, the social sciences and humanities (SSH) shall be fully integrated into all parts of the research framework program. The monitoring report documents to what extent this integration has been successful.

The now 4th monitoring report examines the call for tenders projects of the year 2017. This edition now also covers the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (MSCA) as well as the research infrastructures (RI) and Future and Emerging Technologies (FET).

The report notes a quantitatively slight improvement and stable quality of SSH integration in 2017 compared to previous years. For example, the share of the budget of SSH partners has increased from 7% in 2016 to 8.5% in 2017.

The monitoring report also concludes that the current approach to SSH integration may have reached its limits and proposes its redefinition for the next research framework programme.
