KoWi offers general information and advice as a first contact point on the following funding opportunities.

Complementing the calls within this Societal Challenge, the Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) "Fuel Cells and Hydrogen“ (FCH) also publishes calls for specific project funding.

There are also a number of ERA-NETs, instruments of joint programming of different member states that issue calls for proposals in relevant thematic areas. You can find an overview of all active ERA-NETs on the NETWATCH website

The following Directorates-General (DG) relevant for this theme occasionally allocate funds via calls for proposals and calls for tenders:

• DG Energy
• DG Climate action

The programme NER 300, coordinated by DG Climate action, issues funding for innovative low-carbon energy demonstration projects, using revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System. The focus is on  demonstration of environmentally safe carbon capture and storage (CCS) and innovative renewable energy (RES) technologies on a commercial scale.

The "Research and Training Programme of the European Atomic Energy Community (2014-2018)", Euratom, is not part of the Framework programme for research and innovation and is based on a separate Council regulation. It is, however, intended to complement Horizon 2020 and especially the Societal Challenge Energy and is implemented by the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. In the new funding period the programme focuses, among other things, on safety aspects and a reinforced dialogue between nuclear research and technology and society with the aim of deepening the relationship between science and society and reinforcing public confidence in science, as well as an informed engagement of citizens and civil society on research and innovation matters in this area. The European Commission therefore expects the involvement of researchers beyond the usual boundaries of nuclear sciences, in particular of historians as well as other humanities and social scientists.
