Security - Ziele
Objectives
The main objective of the Security Theme is the development of technologies and knowledge that are a precondition to build capabilities to ensure the security of European citizens while respecting fundamental human rights including privacy. For example, such threats are presented by terrorism, natural disasters and crime.
Additionally, the optimised and concerted use of available and evolving technologies to the benefit of civil European security has to be ensured. This is necessary to stimulate the cooperation of providers and users for civil security solutions. A further objective is to improve the competitiveness of the European security industry and to deliver mission-oriented research results to reduce security gaps. For this purpose, various national and international actors are brought together to cooperate and to coordinate collective activities in order to explore synergies and to avoid unnecessary duplication.
Security research has its application focus only in the civilian sector. It is to be seen in the political context of the common policies on justice, freedom and security (see Stockholm programme) and, in a broader sense, the transport, civil protection, energy, environment and health policies.
Budget
The Theme 'Security' has been granted a budget of € 1.4 billion for the 7 year duration of the 7th Framework Programme (2007-2013).
