Information about the Framework Programme

The Seventh Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration Activities (FP7) functions as the main instrument for research funding at the European level.

Besides new thematic research priorities, FP7 provides a bottom-up approach for the funding of basic research and more financial resources to support the mobility of researchers.

Bolstered by around €50.5 bn euro (without Euratom), FP7 will run for seven years from the beginning of 2007 until the end of 2013.

FP7 is mainly composed of the four Specific Programmes (Cooperation, Ideas, People, Capacities). Each Specific Programme has its distinctive objective and structure with distinguishing conditions for applicants.

Currently, the European Commission prepares the official proposal for the next Framework Programme ('Horizon 2020- the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation').
