Environment

Research topics

Starting from 2011 (2012 work programme), the annual work programmes are structured around five “grand challenges”:

  • Coping with climate change
  • Sustainable use and management of land and seas
  • Improving resource efficiency
  • Protecting citizens from environmental hazards
  • Mobilizing environmental knowledge for policy, industry and society

The work programme is characterized by interdisciplinary research approaches and by references to almost all of the Themes within the Specific Programme ‘Cooperation’. Cooperation with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is of high importance. Furthermore, cooperation activities with third countries are encouraged.
