Knowledge valorisation: New codes of conduct to guide industry-academia collaboration and citizens engagement

15. Mar 2024

The European Commission has published two new codes of conduct to foster knowledge valorisation. Both were developed in a process involving stakeholders, and are aimed at researchers and innovators.

The Code of Conduct on Industry-Academia collaboration provides guidance on how partnerships between both sectors can be organised successfully and in a sustainable way. It makes a number of recommendations with a view to helping academia and industry to establish mutual understanding and trust. Key elements of the code are recommendations on a strategic approach to collaboration, how to match supply and demand and how to create the right conditions for successful partnerships.

The Code of Conduct on Citizen Engagement is aimed at guiding research organisations who want to achieve the uptake of their research results by societal actors. Its recommendations are clustered around how to build an enabling network for sustainable citizen engagement and how to manage engagement with societal actors.

The codes complement two other codes that were previously published as part of the EU’s guiding principles for knowledge valorisation, which deal with the management of intellectual assets for knowledge valorisation and standardisation in the European Research Area.
