Co-funding of regional, national and international programmes (COFUND)‎

This new Marie Curie scheme which has been introduced in FP7 supports existing or new regional, national and international funding schemes that comply with the aims of the Marie Curie Individual Fellowships. The target group of the scheme are public bodies which fund and manage fellowship programmes as well as international organisations, research organisations and research funding bodies that offer fellowships to experienced researchers (even shortly after obtaining their PhD).

Requirements

Three types of fellowships will be taken into account for co-funding by the European Commission:

  • Research stays in other EU Member States, Associated Countries or Third Countries (preferably with an obligatory return phase to Europe) for citizens of EU Member States/Associated Countries
  • Research stays in other EU Member States/Associated Countries for participants from Third Countries
  • Reintegration of researchers from EU Member States/Associated Countries, who have spent at least 3 out of the last 4 years in a Third Country

The co-funded fellowships should support the participating researchers in achieving or strengthening an independent position by acquiring multi- and interdisciplinary skills or intersectoral experience. The selection process of the fellows should be based on international peer-review and follow the standards of the European Charta for Researchers.

The co-funded fellowships should be broadly advertised and open to all nationalities. Thematic limitations of the fellowships are possible, however it should be avoided to restrict the selection of host institutions.

Financial issues

The European Commission will contribute 40% of the fellowship costs (including salary costs, travel costs, indirect costs etc.), while the maximum contribution per institution is fixed at EUR 10m. This amount should not substitute or replace existing funding, but enable an increased number of transnational fellowships or the amelioration of working/employment conditions. Programmes will be co-funded for a duration of 2 to 5 years.

Application procedure

Applications for this scheme can only be submitted to the European Commission via the Electronic Proposal Submission System (EPSS) following a Call for Proposals.
