Applying for an ERC Synergy Grant requires a single submission of the full proposal followed by a two-step evaluation procedure. A complete proposal includes the following components:
-
Administrative Forms (to be edited online via EPSS)
-
Research Proposal (upload as PDF via EPSS)
-
Supporting documentation (binding statement of support by the host institution, etc.)
The administrative forms ask for the following information:
-
Administrative data concerning the Principal Investigators as well as the scientific project (A1)
-
Data concerning the host institution (A2) and the estimated research budget (A3)
The research proposal contains 2 sections:
-
Section 1: The description of the Research Project must not exceed 15 pages (including an Ethical Issues Table and - if applicable - explanations on how the project will deal with ethical issues). A special focus in the proposal should be on showing the synergies and the potential for cooperation within the group of Principal Investigators. Also, the different forms of cooperation between the researchers should be explained.
-
Section 2: This section contains a summary of the research project (Extended Project Synopsis) which must not exceed 5 pages, an individual Scientific CV with a so called Funding-ID (max. 2 pages) for each Principal Investigator and an individual track-record (max. 2 pages) for each Principal Investigator.
Regarding the supporting documentation, it has to be noted that proposals without the binding statement of support by the host institution will not be considered for evaluation.
